For Isover, “waste” rhymes with “resources”

This context of the need for recycling will also change significantly from January 1, 2023 with the entry into force of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Isover Recycling perfectly meets these future requirements by ensuring the recovery of used glass wool from the construction industry.

By replacing sand with cullet in the composition of its glass wool, Isover makes it possible to make significant energy savings since melting cullet requires much lower melting temperatures than those necessary for sand.

A pilot technology

The project aims to build a furnace that will transform scrap glass wool into cullet (recycled glass), which will then be reintroduced in full into electric melting furnaces as a raw material to create new glass wool.

With this process, Isover allows an optimal life cycle for the glass wool.

This technology will be subsequently duplicated on other European sites of the group, in Germany and Sweden. For these three ovens, Isover obtained a 4,1 million euro subsidy from the European Union. Isover also received financial aid from ADEME Pays de Loire for this virtuous project.

The project represents a total investment of 10 million euros including buildings, technical installations and connections. The kiln is under construction at the Chemillé plant in Anjoux, a strategic location to allow wide occupation of the territory with Orange (and its Oxymelt recycling kiln).
