The 14th edition of the "Architectures Vives" festival sublimates, from June 11 to 16, the courtyards of Montpellier mansions with 13 projects imagined by international architects creating an often fruitful dialogue between heritage architecture and contemporary installations.
Among the projects of the 2019 architectural itinerary designed as a reflection around beauty and allowing the general public to discover or rediscover emblematic sites of the historic center of Montpellier, visitors will be able to see in the courtyard of the Hôtel Saint-Côme, " The big waste ". This structure imagined by the Montpellier start-up "Waste is more" from water cans used by hospitals promotes plastic waste to encourage its reuse as a resource.
In the courtyard of the Hotel d'Aurès, it is a magnificent golden butterfly designed using computer tools that spreads its wings made of PET and vinyl. It reflects the conception of beauty, all of lightness and reflections of light, of a trio based in Edinburgh, Cristina Nan, Dirce Medina Patatuchi and Carlos Bausa Martinez.
In the Hôtel du Palais des Guilhem, the visitor can take a visual trip to Lisbon with the installation "Local Beauty" by the Portuguese architectural firm Muro Atelier: the Montpellier court takes the Lisbon baroque aesthetic codes with a sumptuous decor azulejos blue.
This free and open access festival is organized by the Champ Libre association, chaired by Elodie Nourrigat and Jacques Brion, architects in Montpellier.
