The SFIC denounces the degradations against cement factories and reaffirms its commitment in favor of decarbonization

The La Malle cement plant was the target of acts of vandalism and damage. The French Cement Industry Union (SFIC) denounces these actions and intends to support its members, the La Malle plant, its employees and, more generally, the entire French cement industry.

The SFIC warns of the serious consequences that flow from these acts and calls on the competent authorities to consider these actions with the utmost firmness, which must be condemned.

The SFIC intends to recall that the cement industry is a major player in the circular economy at the service of the territories. More than 1,5 million tons of waste are recovered each year in the 25 cement plants located in the heart of the territories; more than 1,8 million tons of CO² of fossil origin are saved and more than 0,6 million tons of natural resources are preserved thanks to this double recovery, material and energy, of waste in the cement process. For certain types of waste, which cannot be reused or recycled, the cement industry avoids unauthorized dumping, and is the best recovery solution.

The cement industry is thus at the heart of a national and local industry for treating waste as alternative fuels. This recovery contributes to maintaining our energy sovereignty by limiting the import of fossil fuels.

The cement industry represents more than 4 direct employees mostly located in rural or peripheral areas, and 500 employees corresponding to subcontracting and a network of mostly local suppliers.

All employees in the sector are mobilized on a daily basis to achieve the sector's decarbonization objectives. Commitment to an ecological, fair and realistic transition cannot be synonymous with violent actions against property and people.

The reduction of carbon emissions from the cement industry is an ongoing process in which professionals in the sector are strongly committed. The efforts made have already reduced the impact by more than 40% between 1990 and 2015.

With current and future innovations, with investments of several hundred million per year to activate the various levers to reduce its emissions, the sector is accelerating, with the support of public authorities, its decarbonization trajectory, for an industry in France, at the service of carbon-free construction.
