The metal frame of the roof of the Suzanne-Lenglen court at Roland-Garros was laid on time and the stadium will be operational for the 2024 French Open and the Paris Games, the French Tennis Federation (FFT) announced in a press release. Thursday, December 22.
"The first significant stage of this major work (the development of the roof) has just been completed with the positioning (shifting) of the metal frame", specifies the FFT while the central court Philippe-Chatrier has been covered since. 2020.
The "Suzanne-Lenglen" project, launched in 2021, will continue until March 2023 with the installation of the cover storage box. The last phase of the construction site will begin after the 2023 edition of the tournament, with the installation of the canvas constituting the mobile cover.
This cover will be inspired by the pleated skirt created by Jean Patou for Suzanne Lenglen, "in homage to the champion, pioneer of women's tennis, who embodied French elegance so well", according to the FFT.
With a capacity of 10.056 seats, the Suzanne-Lenglen court is the second largest stadium on the Roland-Garros site, after the Philippe-Chatrier court (15.225 seats).
At the 2024 Olympics, in addition to tennis, it will host boxing events.
