The reception area of a major German health insurer made with Himacs

As one of Germany's largest health insurers, AOK needed to project a professional yet welcoming image in its reception area. That's why they called on a cooperative group of carpenters - Bezold GmbH & Co. KG, Bodenschlägel GmbH & Co. KG, and Bert Lenz Möbelmanufaktur GmbH - to make this imposing reception desk, in HIMACS.

Above all, this desk had to be easy to clean, hygienic, and durable, while being eye-catching and imposing. The centerpiece of the huge and bright space on the ground floor, it is eight meters long, and its organic shape allows optimal use of space. The design uses flowing, clean lines to create a "wow" effect.

Endless shapes for ambitious designs

This project required a material with an elegant and perfect finish, which could be assembled without visible joints, and in this HIMACS ticked all the boxes. A creative designer can bring a project to life that impress clients, but it is above all the material that determines whether the design can become reality. HIMACS, with its incredible thermoforming properties, was the deciding factor, with this forming process allowing it to take virtually any shape, bringing stunning designs to life.

A one-of-a-kind reception

The construction of this desk required a combination of high professional skills, extensive Solid Surface experience and an uncompromising sense of detail. Bezold, headquartered in Bayreuth, Bavaria, is a Solid Surface expert, specializing in furniture. With almost 70 years of experience, the company has a number of interior design projects in its portfolio, with singular details, such as this futuristic reception desk.

A plywood frame forms the base of the desk, covered in HIMACS that had to fit together perfectly in a three-dimensional shape. Careful finishes have allowed this perfect rendering, without visible joints, giving the impression of being one and the same piece.

A design highlight is the protruding counter extension at the rear, easily accommodating four dual-monitor workstations. Although measuring eight meters, the front part seems light and refined, almost suspended, an effect obtained thanks to the slightly recessed rear block. The LED lighting under the front element accentuates the effect, with, as a small detail of refinement, a satin glass shelf in front, lit from behind.

Elegant contours and soft shapes characterize the entire design. The front element, the substructure and the counter all made of a single material, HIMACS, thus creating a uniform shine.
