At the end of December 2020, the Urssaf network counted 1.928.000 administratively active auto-entrepreneurs (AE), i.e. 287.000 more over one year (+ 17,5%). This increase, similar to that of the previous year (288.000) despite a context marked by containment measures and restrictions linked to the health crisis, is explained by a still sustained rate of registrations (599.000 over the year, i.e. 3,1% more than in 2019).
The number of write-offs stood at 312.000 accounts over the year (+ 6,3% compared to 2019, taking into account a simulation of these for the fourth quarter of 2019).
1.071.000 auto-entrepreneurs report positive turnover in the last quarter of 2020, or 8,7% more than the previous year. These economically active auto-entrepreneurs represent 55,5% of those registered; they were 60,0% a year earlier. In connection with the health crisis, the share of economically active AEs reached in the second quarter of 2020 its lowest level since 2011 (47,5%).
Over the full year 2020, global sales amounted to 15,94 billion euros, 0,8% more than in 2019 despite a second quarter of 2020 down by 17,3 % over one year. In the fourth quarter of 2020, it increased by 5,7% over one year.
The average turnover recorded in the last quarter of 2020 (4.368 euros) is down 2,8% over one year.
The health crisis has affected the different sectors of activity and the regions in a very contrasting way. Some sectors have been forced to close for almost the entire year (recreational and sports activities in particular), while others have on the contrary benefited from the effects of containment (delivery services in particular).
Turnover was generally more dynamic in the regions on the west side of the metropolis.
