The mineral wool insulation sector welcomes the EU's desire to accelerate the energy renovation of buildings

The adopted text raises the level of ambition of the renovations of individual and collective housing classified G, which will have to achieve energy class E in 2030 and D in 2033.

Public and tertiary buildings will also have to be renovated to achieve a minimum energy performance class of E by 2027 and D by 2030.

The directive is based on minimum energy performance standards that will cover the entire stock by 2035, to achieve carbon neutrality of the European building stock by 2050.

A certain margin of flexibility will be granted to the Member States, through derogations limited to a maximum of 22% of the residential stock. This balanced ceiling guarantees the stability of the renovation market.

The insulating mineral wool sector welcomes the adoption of a clear and essential roadmap to accelerate the energy renovation of buildings in Europe. This vote represents a major step forward in fighting climate change, protecting households and businesses from energy price inflation, strengthening our energy sovereignty and creating local jobs.

A trilogue will soon begin between the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Council of the European Union to decide on the final text of the directive. As part of these negotiations, the sector calls on the French Government to defend the maintenance of the ambition voted in Parliament, to ensure the alignment of the European framework with national commitments in terms of energy renovation and the fight against energy poverty.
