The heat pump is indeed the most economical heating according to a study

This observation was ours last year when the Hello Watt study was released on the most economical heating methods. For the occasion, we have updated the study, updating the fuel prices and the amount of aid.

Result: yes, heat pumps are indeed the most economical heating system, and quite clearly (in addition to being ecological).

As a reminder, to achieve this result, the calculation carried out is as follows:

• Compare the purchase prices of different heating appliances, after deduction of average aid, and smooth this amount over 20 years (the average lifespan of all appliances),
• Add to this the average cost represented by the heating energy used: for this, we start from the current price and assume an average annual increase of 5% for fossil fuels and 3% for electricity and wood.

Rating of heating systems by Hello Watt

For households equipped with a hot water network (case of houses formerly equipped with gas or oil heating, for example).

1st: Air-water heat pump

Although they can be expensive to purchase, heat pumps are heavily subsidized. They run on electricity, a relatively expensive energy source, but transform one kWh consumed into 3 kWh of heat produced. This allows for very low consumption, making it the most interesting heating system to install today.

2nd: Biomass boiler

These boilers use an inexpensive fuel: wood. They are ecological, but you have to be able to store pellets or logs!

3rd: Gas boiler

If the dwelling is connected to the network, natural gas is the preferred option. Otherwise, propane gas in a tank will have to be used.

Not suitable: All-electric heating

Prohibited: Oil heating

For households that are not equipped with a hot water network (case of houses formerly equipped with electric heating for example).

1st: Air-air heat pump

The air-air heat pump draws the calories present in the outside air then diffuses them inside the dwelling in the form of hot air.

2nd: Pellet stove

Even if it is rather to be considered in the form of auxiliary heating, the wood stove remains an ecological and economical solution.

3rd: Electric heating

Heating exclusively with electric heaters is very expensive. In this case, installing solar panels to produce your own electricity can be a very good option.

Not suitable: Natural gas, propane, biomass boiler, air-water heat pump
