CAPEB Rhône has seen a significant increase in its memberships and also has the youngest average number of members in France. A progressive rejuvenation and therefore new needs, to be taken into account when training becomes paramount and when digital transformation represents a major challenge for the years to come in the building sector.
The need for a new building
With its mission of representation, promotion and defense of craftsmen and small construction companies, the CAPEB Rhône:
- supports 1 members,
- plays a major role in terms of training in the building trades: by providing training every day, throughout the year, with its 25 hours of training and its 000 files processed, it has even become the first organization in the entire French network,
- has doubled its service offering in 10 years.
A success generating a chronic lack of space to accommodate all its audiences: artisans and their employees, businesses, elected officials, political and economic opinion leaders ...
To support its development, the construction of this new building was entrusted to the promoter PRD and the architecture agency AFAA.
Designed as a place to live in order to guarantee more comfort and allow even more conviviality, this new building:
- strengthens the roots of CAPEB Rhône in the life of the 9th arrondissement by fully participating in its renewal,
- stands out for its shape in the bow of a ship,
- appears as a strong signal at the North entrance to the Metropolis.
The real estate operation, which is practically entirely self-funded, will ultimately cost only around one million euros and will have no impact on contributions.

A building site model of the future
With the aim of improving construction by promoting exchanges between professionals at all stages, BIM constitutes a major development.
Gradually compulsory in state public markets since the start of 2017, the digital model, the result of a global trend, should eventually be extended to all types of construction sites, new for renovation, large construction sites as well as small construction sites.
A turn that the craftsmen are determined to take right now but which requires new skills. An approach that CAPEB Rhône has decided to anticipate now with a building designed as a work tool in its own right.
Will be delivered at the same time:
- a turnkey building,
- its digital model to make it a useful tool for training.
Proof of the effectiveness of the craftsmen of CAPEB Rhône:
- during the works, the construction of this new building next to the existing one ensures the continuity of its operation and its services,
- this work will start in the 1st quarter of 2018 and the inauguration is scheduled before summer 2019.
The new CAPEB Rhône building, a mineral ship at the northern entrance to Lyon
An illustration of the dynamism of the company that has become the most powerful organization in the Rhône building industry, the new CAPEB Rhône headquarters has set itself the objectives of combining comfort, conviviality and efficiency.
In addition to the permanent staff, this building:
- will adapt daily to the reception of members, partners and participants in training,
- will be able to host punctually the events organized by CAPEB Rhône.

Architectural choices
Located at the crossroads of several major road axes, at the North end, at the Porte de Lyon, the future headquarters of the CAPEB Rhône constitutes the first element of an urban sequence long of a hundred meters.
The length of this sequence led the promoter PRD and the AFAA Architecture Agency to propose a project more in line with the scale of its environment. The whole is fragmented into 5 volumes of different heights and punctuated by two breaks. The relationship between these volumes and their location accentuates the dynamic effect of the composition.
At the north end, the volume of the CAPEB building in the shape of a ship's bow announces the project's role as a signal.
The future headquarters of CAPEB Rhône must be a place of life and functional and friendly exchanges. All the workspaces are positioned on the first day and the establishment of common functions makes it possible to offer the most modular and functional trays possible, this despite the constrained form of the tenement. Terraces are arranged on several levels, enjoying breathtaking views of the Monts d'Or.
To ensure the sustainability of the project, the architecture here illustrates the values of the CAPEB Rhône even in the choice of materials. A massive building, apparently simple, which announces a long-lasting and rigorous project. The facades are made up of prefabricated polished concrete panels and affirm the desired effect of rigor and simplicity. The roofs are treated as the fifth facade of the project. No technical equipment is installed there, in large vegetated parts, they are accessible by users.
The first floor of this building will host the training, to enhance and develop this essential pole of CAPEB Rhône. Programs allowing to approach the craft industry in its entirety, passing by the know-how of grounds specific to each body of the building, sustainable development, prevention and security, office automation and internet aspects, up to the inherent tertiary fields to all companies.
