Responding to climate change
The future establishment will replace the old Voltaire college built in the 60s, which is now outdated in terms of standards and capacity. Partially located in a flood zone, the new building designed by NM2A Architecture is built on stilts and features wood and concrete materials. A project resulting from an ambitious environmental approach, the future college of Remoulins aims to meet several requirements in this direction. : BEPOS and E3C1 labels, Occitanie Sustainable Buildings Approach (Gold level), Nowatt Building. Hence the relevance of using low carbon concrete for its construction.
A need ? Concrete
CEMEX, from its Montfrin production unit located just 7 km from the site, supplied its client Eiffage Construction, a general contractor, with nearly 5 m³ of low-carbon concrete, including nearly 000 m³ of Vertua® classic and 3 m³ of Vertua® plus, showing a reduction in the carbon footprint of 000 to 2% and 000 to 20% respectively; a significant contribution to achieving the environmental ambitions of the client. In addition, CEMEX delivered gray and white architectural concretes for the realization of the walls of the corridors of the building designed as large avenues. For these aesthetic concretes, achieving the perfect shade required by the architect required several formulations and samples refined by the technical teams. Finally, it is the Nîmes production unit which produces the 35 m³ of anhydrite screed intended for the 35 m² of floors and whose characteristics prevent the multiplication of fractionation joints.
No compromise on health and safety
In order to preserve the safety of college users and their companions, CEMEX has adapted its production and delivery schedule to school hours, the old establishment still in operation being located in the immediate vicinity of the site. Another illustration of CEMEX's commitment to the health and safety of its stakeholders: its 100% digital platform specializing in the management of material orders and the monitoring of deliveries in real time. CEMEX Go has effectively contributed to improving the safety (physical distancing), environment (0 paper) and productivity (ease and flexibility of use, time saving) performance of Eiffage Construction; a significant asset in the management of this site to be delivered by the second half of 2021 to allow, from January 2022, to receive secondary school students from Remoulins and its surroundings, and this with the greatest respect for people and the environment.
