The EFB research prize with a CSR dimension supports the ambitions of La Fondation École Française du Béton in favor of enhancing the image of concrete trades and highlighting innovations in the sector.

Through this prize, the Scientific Council of the EFB participates in the promotion of young researchers developing technical solutions to face the strategic issues of industry and meet the challenges of the world of tomorrow.

This prize was awarded to Amr Aboulela for the quality of his presentation and his work on "Study of the resistance of different low-carbon cementitious materials to biological attacks in sewerage networks".

Amr Aboulela is a Doctor of Civil Engineering who graduated from INSA Toulouse in early 2022. He is currently doing a post-doctorate at the University of Sheffield in England where he is working on the development of cements from waste from the construction industry. construction.

In his thesis carried out in partnership with the LMDC under the direction of Alexandra Berton and Cédric Patapy, Amr Aboulela was interested in the development and optimization of a biological test in laboratory conditions to represent the exposure conditions of materials materials encountered in sewerage networks, as well as the development of a performance indicator that could classify a wide range of cementitious materials according to their resistance to biological attack.

The relevance of this research work also lies in its ability to be quickly duplicated on an industrial scale, and to serve players in the sector in an efficient and rapid manner in their CSR approach.

“The choice of this subject is the result of my various experiences within design offices in the field of Civil Engineering and Process Engineering which aroused my interest in construction materials. I also wanted my research subject and the conclusions of my thesis to be quickly applicable to help industry develop more efficient processes. Also, my work complements the research already carried out, which focuses on understanding the mechanisms of deterioration of materials in sewerage networks in order to find more interesting solutions, both environmentally and economically. ” details Amr Aboulela.

“This thesis allowed me to refine my aspirations. I would like to continue research in the construction materials sector and broaden my area of ​​expertise in the context of the circular economy. It is with this objective that I am doing a post-doctorate at the University of Sheffield where I am working on the development of cements from construction industry waste. I was also very happy to participate in the civil engineering university meetings of Villeneuve D'Ascq where I had the opportunity to meet many industry professionals and university actors.
