The financing protocol for the new Provence-Côte d'Azur line is signed

In accordance with an agreement concluded in April 2020, the document signed by the Minister Delegate for Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari relates to a total amount of 3,5 billion euros, which must be borne at 40% by the State and 40% by the communities of Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, the remaining 20% ​​to be requested from Europe.

The first phase includes for 900 million euros the construction of a station near Nice airport, the opening of a Toulon RER and facilities in Marseille, which must be put into service by 2030.

The second phase essentially concerns, for 2,6 billion euros, developments between Cannes and Nice and the drilling of a tunnel under Marseille, the opening of which is planned around 2035.

“The first works are scheduled from 2024”, noted the ministry in a press release, while the public inquiry concerning these first two phases ends on Monday.

A subsequent phase 3 foresees the construction of a new line between Nice and Cannes, while a phase 4 envisages sections between Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhône) and Toulon and between Cannes and Le Muy (Var). No deadline has yet been put forward for their completion.

The communities concerned are the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône, Alpes-Maritimes and Var, the metropolitan areas of Aix-Marseille, Nice and Toulon, and the urban areas of Cannes, Draguignan and Grasse.
