The sector responsible for recycling and reusing waste from building products and materials will be operational "from the start of 2023", the Ministry of Ecological Transition announced on Wednesday June 22.
Eco-organizations will be responsible for the free collection, sorting and recycling of waste generated by the sector within the framework of the AGEC law relating to the fight against waste and the circular economy.
The new sector will set up "free collection by eco-organizations of building waste from companies in the construction sector, craftsmen and individuals".
The Ministry of Ecological Transition announces the publication of the specifications for eco-organizations in order to provide "new solutions both to elected officials and to the sector" in order to reduce the consumption of resources, it is explained in a press release.
The decree setting the specifications for eco-organizations plans to "mesh the territory with collection points according to local needs" but also to "reinforce the accessibility of collection points according to the constraints of professionals".
Finally, it will "desaturate the network of local community waste collection centers", according to the ministry.
Initially scheduled for 2022, the launch of this sector will finally be a year late, the time to set its rules and principles.
Last November, the French Building Federation estimated that "even in January 2023, funding will not be at its peak, the sector will be implemented over several years".
The construction sector produces 42 million tonnes of waste per year, which is as much as the waste generated by households.
