The construction of an “industrial village” near the Calanques of Marseille is postponed

The Legré Mante factory, established since 1784 in La Madrague-de-Montredon, a district in the south of Marseille, manufactured tartaric acid used mainly in the wine, food and pharmaceutical sectors, until its liquidation in 2009.

Bought by the Swiss investment fund Ginkgo, specializing in the rehabilitation of polluted sites, the former industrial zone was the subject of a residential building construction project.

At the request of three neighborhood and environmental defense associations as well as two residents, the administrative court of Marseille annuls the building permits issued by the town hall which provided for the construction of a senior residence, a residence of tourism, shops and offices on the site, details the jurisdiction in a press release.

She claims a "lack of public information during the investigation" and "judges that the project does not respect the coastal law, in that it significantly reinforces the urbanization of this peripheral site" already saturated at the level road traffic and located at the foot of a protected national park.

And she notes that the project should change its nature to achieve and correspond to "a limited extension of urbanization in areas close to the shore" as well as to the "decontamination of the site".
