The Chaux'Room Saint Astier® gets a makeover with its new Novaskin® insulating coating

As the facade coatings have been deteriorating for several years, the lime burner took advantage of the launch of its new range of NOVASKIN® insulating coatings to launch the thermal and aesthetic renovation of these exterior coatings.

Now renovated after three months of work, the lime room therefore benefits from additional thermal insulation, good management of hygrometric flows, and breathability adapted to the original supports, thanks to the NOVASKIN® THERMO PLUS coating body pair and the NOVASKIN® COATING finishing coating.

For the TREZENTORRES company in charge of the work, SAINT-ASTIER® is positioned as an alternative expected by the market, where the installation of classic ITE is unsuitable. The coatings proved to be light and very easy to apply, thanks to their creamy composition, a real plus for the applicators. The worksite which began in February was delivered at the beginning of June.

2 in 1 renovation work, combining thermal and aesthetic renovation

This renovation was entrusted to the company TREZENTORRES, a company specializing in the restoration and enhancement of heritage in the Paris region. With a team of 70 companions, the company works on approximately 120 projects each year. Among them, this year we find the renovation of the chaux'room SAINT-ASTIER®.

The work concerns the first third of the traditional Parisian façade of this building from the 1s/30s, located in the 40th arrondissement of Paris.

As soon as the work began, the company had to start re-doing the zinc fascia and the basements. This meant completely dismantling the old wooden facades and removing the previous coatings.

Like most buildings from this period, the old cladding was composed of cement on rubble and brick masonry. The façade was therefore subject to rising damp, leading to humidity problems in the walls.

To treat the saltpeter phenomenon and the humidity of the base, the SANIMUR® sanitation mortar was therefore applied. In addition to SANIMUR®, the NOVASKIN® system was the appropriate response to manage the humidity flows, provide thermal correction on the walls, and restore the original finish appearance to the facade.

NOVASKIN®: the new era of insulation for old buildings

“At the same thickness, the NOVASKIN® THERMO PLUS undercoat has 15 times greater thermal insulation than a traditional mortar”, explains Michael Bordier, SAINT-ASTIER® Technical Sales Representative for Ile-de-France. "It displays a thermal conductivity equal to 0,0793 W/mK, and this was measured in real application conditions by a COFRAC-accredited testing laboratory. Its implementation is carried out manually in passes of 3 to 5 cm, from the firming of the previous pass to a maximum final thickness of 10 cm and stopped 15 cm from the finished floor. The drying time to be respected is 7 days minimum." A suitable solution for old buildings but also for applicators.

As a finish, the NOVASKIN® COATING finishing coating was applied with a sand beige tint (n°023) to blend in with the upper part of the facade. This was done manually over 8 cm, then troweled with a sponge by the companions of the TREZENTORRES company.

Unparalleled application comfort

NOVASKIN® undercoats, made from recycled expanded glass beads, are 100% mineral in origin, resistant, non-toxic and non-polluting.

These beads have excellent insulation capabilities and are extremely lightweight.

Therefore "In terms of application, the coating is easy to handle, flexible and smooth, its creamy consistency makes it much easier to use, its application requires 4 times less material than a traditional mortar" confides Anthony ASSUNCAO.
