Resistance to change and costs

Employee resistance to adopting new technologies and high upfront costs continue to be persistent barriers to digital transformation. These barriers, the most frequently cited year after year, highlight a lack of perceived benefits of digital transformation. Even if companies recognize its importance, they remain held back by human and financial factors, revealing a structural inertia in the face of change.

Digital ROI uncertain for many businesses

The lack of a clear perception of the return on investment of digital transformation is a significant obstacle. Many companies fail to measure the concrete benefits of this transition, which creates hesitation to invest further in new technologies. This is especially true in SMEs, where the lack of clear indicators discourages initiative.

More than 50% of SMEs and more than 70% of companies in the construction sector do not have a cybersecurity strategy

These figures are alarming in a context where data protection has become crucial. This situation exposes companies to significant risks, including cyberattacks, ransomware, and data breaches.

Digital eco-responsibility struggles to gain traction

Although there is a lot of talk about Green IT and digital sobriety, companies remain reluctant to pay more for eco-friendly solutions. Cost reduction and equipment longevity are the priorities. The priorities for companies in this construction sector are: equipment longevity (67% of respondents) and the willingness to buy refurbished used equipment (50% of respondents). These results reveal that companies see Green IT primarily as a way to save money rather than a real commitment to the environment.

AI: an underexploited potential

Artificial intelligence is seen as a major opportunity by 50% of companies, and by only 31% of construction companies, but its development remains hampered by limited internal skills and a certain reserve among managers. Although aware of AI's potential to automate tasks and improve productivity, the latter are hesitant to invest due to a lack of visibility into the return on investment (ROI).

Methodology - Study carried out by Occurrence (IFOP group) between July 23 and September 15, 2024 with a sample of 500 respondents from French SMEs and mid-cap companies and around 85 questions.
