Cerema mobilized alongside communities for National Air Quality Day

Cerema is also developing expertise in indoor air quality in buildings, in particular schools. To step up its commitment to this major issue, Cerema will have 2022 million euros in 2,5 paid in respect of the penalty imposed by the Council of State on the French State.

On the occasion of the national day of air quality on October 14, Cerema takes stock of its actions undertaken and to come.

Cerema contributes to the evolution of regulations and supports local authorities and local actors to take concrete action in the territories in order to improve the air we breathe daily. It evaluates the actions carried out, carries out checks, develops innovations and contributes through its research missions to better understanding the issues. Its powers have been recognized by the Council of State, which identified the establishment as one of the main beneficiaries of the penalty payment of 10 million euros (decision of August 4, 2021).

Cerema will mobilize this funding in favor of air quality around two priorities:

• Support for territories in particular for monitoring low-emission mobility zones (ZFEm): carrying out local studies, organizing participatory workshops in a logic of networking and emulation, setting up a space collaborative feedback on shared experiences.
• Improving knowledge, in particular on port development and policies, to better take into account road and maritime emissions in public development policies.

Inside buildings, too, air quality presents major health issues. This is why Cerema has developed cutting-edge expertise, particularly in ventilation. It advises and brings its expertise to communities, in particular to take proper account of air quality in schools.
