A new proactive energy transition policy was initiated in 2018 with the ambition of decarbonizing 90% of the brick production activity by 2025 - 2027 for an overall budget of €62 million.
This policy of anticipation is beginning to bear fruit since 5 production sites for wall bricks -La Séguinière (49), Mably (42), Colomiers (31), Gironde sur Dropt (33), Saint-Martin des Fontaines (85 )- show an average decarbonization rate of 45% at the end of February 2022. In addition, they are the subject of specific action plans which will make it possible in the very short term to reduce energy consumption and the carbon impact of the 9 lines of production of wall bricks.
On the La Séguinière site (49), the largest brick production site in France, already more than 50% decarbonized with biogas and biomass, a new project for a biomass stove, an energy source for drying products enters its implementation phase. The main order for the hearth at VINCKE is underway and the preparatory work has already started. This investment of more than €10 million will make it possible to decarbonise more than 80% of its energy consumption by 2024.
The Mably site (42), historically powered by biogas and equipped with cogeneration, continues its transition towards a goal of total decarbonization of its process. A sawdust factory project, also a winner of the France Relance program, was launched in 2021 for an investment of €4,7 million. The first stage will start in April 2022 with the commissioning of a porosage installation. This will result in the addition of biomass in the clay mixture to increase the share of renewable energy from 20 to 40%.
The Gironde sur Dropt (33) site, already 70% carbon-free, is the subject of a €7 million investment project, winner of the France Relance program; this project will modernize the industrial tool and reduce thermal energy consumption by 25%. Thus, by 2027, the activity of this site will be decarbonized up to 90%.
For the Saint-Martin-des-Fontaines site (85): in collaboration with NAODEN and with the help of ADEME, Bouyer Leroux initiated the commissioning phase of the industrial pilot of gasifiers dedicated to ceramic industry. This Research & Development phase should enable Bouyer Leroux to validate this solution for using biomass on a large scale. This pilot gasification unit represents an investment budget of €2,3 million.
On the strength of the energy transition that it has already carried out and mobilized on planned actions and projects, Bouyer Leroux is implementing the proactive strategy that it has decided to deploy. It is confident about the relevance of the bio'bric solution to meet the requirements of RE 2020 and to be a long-term producer of constructive solutions for individual houses and eco-efficient collective housing.
