A bill promised by the government for the reconstruction of Mayotte after Cyclone Chido was placed on the Senate agenda for May 19, according to the parliamentary calendar published Wednesday, April 2, by the upper house.
This text, which must notably translate the "Mayotte debout" plan promised by the government at the end of December, will arrive at the Upper House for first reading, with a passage in committee on May 14 and an examination in the hemicycle which will extend until a formal vote scheduled for May 27 at 18:30 p.m.
It must continue the effort to rebuild the devastated archipelago in a "rebuilding" approach, and will aim to "enable the economic, educational and social development of the territory on new foundations," according to Overseas Minister Manuel Valls' comments to parliamentarians in recent weeks.
This "program law," which Prime Minister François Bayrou wants to design with Mayotte's elected officials, will then have to continue its journey to the National Assembly within a tight schedule.
A first "emergency" bill to activate various reconstruction levers already came into force at the end of February, while another text less linked to the cyclone and much more criticized, which aims to tighten restrictions on the right of the soil on the island, is about to be definitively adopted by Parliament.
