The Venice Architecture Biennale postponed to 2021

The 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, originally scheduled for August 29 to November 29, 2020, has been postponed until next year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, its organizers have announced.

"The decision to postpone the Architecture Biennial to May 2021 is due to the recognition of the impossibility of producing such a complex exhibition on a world scale within the necessary time," they said in a press release.

This biennial, entitled "How are we going to live together?" (How will we live together?) Will run from May 22 to November 21, 2021.

"These past few days have clarified the reality we are facing," said Roberto Cicutto, president of the Venice Biennale, which oversees several events, including the most famous, the Film Mostra.

"With the greatest respect for the work provided by all, the investments made by the participants and considering the difficulties experienced by all countries (...) we decided to listen to those, and they are the majority, who asked the postponement of the Architecture Biennale, "added Mr. Cicutto.

Venice alternately hosts a biennial of contemporary art in odd years and a biennial of architecture in even years. This order will therefore be reversed in the next two years since contemporary art will be hosted by the City of the Doges in 2022.

Created in 1893, the Architecture Biennial is considered one of the most prestigious artistic events in Europe and in the world.

The Mostra, on the other hand, confirmed a month ago that it would be held as planned from 2 to 12 September next.
