Production activities: A look at 2021 achievements
- Energy recovery and electricity production: AGC began installing PV panels and heat recovery facilities in 2009. Since then, electricity production has grown steadily to reach 32.221 MWh of recovered and self-generated energy in 2021.
- air: On a comparable basis, per tonne of glass sold, the Upstream Operations part has reduced its direct CO2 emissions by 10% since 2002. - Transport: 57% of raw materials are transported by boat, barge and train, which is the equivalent of some 57.985 trucks less per year on the roads. In 2021, nearly 42.000 tonnes of finished glass products were transported by train and truck, i.e. some 2.100 fewer trucks per year on the roads.
- Packaging: Today, most glass packaging is reusable. AGC Glass Europe has a very high rate of reuse of its packaging. In Belgium, 98% of packaging is reused.
- Recycling : AGC Glass Europe recycles around 1.000.000 tonnes of glass every year, saving around 1.150.000 tonnes of raw materials and 700.000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Green energy production in AGC factories
AGC began installing photovoltaic panels and heat recovery facilities in 2009. Many projects are under consideration to further increase green energy production and reduce grid electricity consumption and CO2 emissions. associated. AGC Glass Europe monitors the total carbon footprint of its operations following the guidelines of the GHG Protocol. The first calculation of AGC's carbon footprint was carried out in 2009 and it was done every three years until 2020. It is now calculated every year in order to better follow the progress of the carbon roadmap of AGC. 'AGC Glass Europe. The latest calculation shows that the activities of AGC Glass Europe are responsible, directly and indirectly, for 3.535.000 tonnes of CO2 emitted per year (reference year 2020). AGC Glass Europe also monitors the carbon avoided through the use of its products, resulting in 33.530.000 tonnes of CO2 avoided. This means that for every ton of CO2 emitted by AGC, nearly 9 tons are avoided through the use of AGC products.
