The Livret A account earned 3 billion euros net in March

This is more or less the result of last February (2,94 billion) or March 2021 (2,8 billion).

The Sustainable and Solidarity Development Booklet for its part garnered 650 million euros net, a little more than the 540 million in February, but less than the 870 million in March 2021.

In total, the surplus of Livret A and LDDS deposits totaled 3,67 billion euros over the month, exactly as in March 2021, i.e. a total outstanding amount for the two products of 483,6 billion euros at the end of March.

And over the quarter, the two booklets earned nearly 14 billion euros net, against 14,6 billion in the same period last year and just under 10 billion in previous years, a sign that the French have not not let up on their savings efforts.

One of the explanations for the persistence of the attractiveness of Livret A could be the doubling of the interest rate, from 0,5% to 1% on 1 February. This increase, the first in more than ten years, also concerned the LDDS.

Managed jointly by the Caisse des dépôts and the banking networks, the Livret A is mainly used to finance social housing, while the LDDS is dedicated to the social and solidarity economy as well as to energy savings in housing.

They are often considered safe haven investments. Last year, the French deposited 15,17 billion euros more than they withdrew on their Livrets A, and 3,94 billion euros on their LDDS.
