With 314.865 units sold in 2020, the domestic wood heating equipment market fell by 16,4% compared to 2019. This downward trend in sales was observed in almost all of the segments and sub-segments that make up the market. Only pellet boilers (14.530 sales, + 2,4%) managed to do well.
The stoves segment recorded a 16% drop in sales, with a drop of more than 18% in pellet appliances. On the French market as a whole, total sales of automatic pellet-fueled appliances (boilers, stoves, cookers, closed hearths and inserts) fell by more than 17%.
Two phenomena largely contributed to these results. On the one hand, the health and economic crisis which caused a decline in activity during the first half of the year which was not caught up thereafter. On the other hand, the extremely mild temperatures of winter 2020 which has been placed at the forefront of the warmest winters in the last hundred years. Despite this decrease, the products continue to evolve towards very high energy and environmental performance, for maximum reduction of emissions.
These are the main findings of the Observ'ER (Observatory of Renewable Energies) annual study on the 2020 market for domestic wood-burning appliances.
