Start of construction of the “Les Roseaux” Autism Medical-Educational Institute in Bischwiller (67)

OSLO architectes is launching the construction of a facility dedicated to autistic children and young adults on the site of the Protestant Sonnenhof Foundation in Bischwiller (67).

The project is part of the Sonnenhof Foundation's desire to welcome and support thirty autistic children and young adults, and presents itself as a real place of life and learning.

The program includes a day center that can accommodate six interns, as well as three accommodation units distributed around educational and therapeutic spaces designed to promote development and well-being. It also includes an administrative and technical center designed to accommodate a multidisciplinary team.

The design was thought out in line with the disorders encountered by children with autism, taking into account their unique needs, with the aim of soothing their senses and offering them a cocoon of well-being: a welcoming and reassuring volume like a house, a fluid spatial organization, simple and predictable operation, easy orientation in space, and controlled atmospheres.

Located on the ground floor, the 3.000 m² project adopts a hexagonal volume, bringing together different entities and sequenced spaces. It is thus structured around landscaped patios that guarantee the supply of natural light and optimized ventilation.

The whole fully meets the requirements of RE2020 through a construction limiting carbon emissions with the use of simple bio-sourced, geo-sourced and sustainable materials: concrete load-bearing structure, wood frame walls and bio-sourced insulation, wood frame and waterproof roof with bio-sourced insulation.

On the other hand, the building's location aims to maximize the existing landscaped and planted areas in which it is located. Favorable to biodiversity, they generate well-being and contribute to summer comfort.

Large green spaces are being preserved, along with swales to promote rainwater infiltration. Sixteen new trees will compensate for the removal of twenty-three old trees.

A drop-off point will be set up to guarantee accessibility and safety, parking spaces adapted for people with reduced mobility will be created, and routes will be differentiated between public and staff.

Delivery of the IME is scheduled for the end of 2026 for commissioning in early 2027.
