This ranking - which concerned 2.000 companies with more than 500 employees - was established by questioning 5.000 people on their assessment of CSR in these companies and by analyzing some twenty key factual indicators.
Spie batignolles is in 145th position in all sectors and in 3rd position for construction industry players, with the best score on the “Environment” criterion. The result of a proactive and ambitious CSR policy, at the heart of its strategic plan, in which Spie batignolles has been involved for several years.
In terms of the environment, the circular economy is one of the pillars of this policy.
In this area, several actions are being carried out simultaneously: taking eco-design into account from the start by favoring eco-materials, use of recyclable and recycled materials, implementation of reuse, improvement of the recycling process. waste or the impact of production on the carbon footprint.
83% recovery rate in 2019
Joining the circular economy approach is particularly essential for construction companies in view of the weight of waste generated by construction sites each year. The potential for transforming waste into resources to be part of a virtuous circle is immense. It presupposes the commitment of all stakeholders and the creation of genuine recycling and transformation channels.
Faced with this energy transition issue, the European Union has introduced an obligation to recover inert and non-hazardous waste from the construction industry. A minimum recovery threshold of 70% in 2020 is imposed on the producers and owners of this waste.
Spie batignolles exceeds this threshold, with a recovery rate of 83% in 2019, and naturally wants to go even further.
On the particular point of reuse, the very low rate estimated at 1% out of more than 40 million waste counted on construction sites in France testifies to a major problem: a large majority of construction waste cannot be reused or reused, d '' hence the difficulty for companies to effectively engage in a circular economy approach.
It is therefore essential to innovate in terms of eco-materials (biobased, geo-sourced materials, etc.), waste recovery and transformation platforms.
Structuring actions to accelerate
In terms of the Circular Economy, whether it is reuse, reuse, recycling of materials or even the development of eco-materials, Spie batignolles is committed to ambitious actions.
"Club du Réemploi" - a multi-stakeholder partnership for the reuse of construction materials
The Spie batignolles group, through its Spie batignolles real estate promotion entity, has joined forces with other contracting authorities in an ambitious and unprecedented action program concerning the reuse of construction materials. Called the “Reuse Club”, and comprising several dozen companies, this group aims to accelerate the transition towards a much more significant reuse policy. In this perspective, this Club has set itself the objective of reaching a rate of 15 to 20% by 2024.
An experiment with this new program is currently being carried out on 150 sites. To do this, site managers rely on a dedicated digital platform which identifies products suitable for reuse in a logic of standardization, as well as the provision of numerous platforms for the reuse of these materials.
Valosphere platform - a spoil optimization platform
Spie batignolles malet, expert in road infrastructure, joined forces with Arc Environnement to create Valosphere in August 2019, a platform for the optimization of inert excavation material from construction sites and the development of eco-products resulting from this reprocessing. Its design was born within the framework of the “La Rochelle 0 carbon territory” plan, winner in 2019 of the national Territories of innovation call for projects. The platform treats 25.000 tonnes of waste annually (rubble, plants, etc.), from their collection to their treatment and recovery. Once recycled, they are then reintroduced into road works or other types of construction. Valosphere is also carrying out research work on the eco-materials part.
Agreco + ®: an asphalt concrete with an ecological emulsion
The Research & Development division of Spie batignolles malet has developed many particularly innovative road infrastructure solutions, such as the Lumiroute® device or Agreco + ®, an emulsion asphalt concrete composed of 100% asphalt aggregates .
- Agreco + ® makes it possible to use the asphalt aggregates from the site which are treated on site or near the site using a hypermobile cold plant. This process makes it possible to propose an alternative solution to in-place reprocessing with emulsion. The organization of a single double freight is enough to supply the site, thereby limiting the transport of materials.
Worksite initiatives that are multiplying
At the site level, many initiatives also contribute to the efficient recovery of waste.
40.000 tonnes of materials re-used for the construction of a logistics center
The BARJANE distribution center for Biocoop built by Spie batignolles immobilier and the Bâtir France entity, which meets the requirements of ISO 14001, HQE® level Excellent and BiodiverCity® certifications, was built with 43.000 tonnes of materials from the deconstruction of a former brickyard, which have been crushed for reuse in the new construction. This choice made it possible to significantly reduce the ecological footprint of this site by avoiding, on the one hand, the consumption of filler materials, and on the other hand, the evacuation of rubble, thus saving 150 tonnes of CO² equivalent.
Reduction of carbon emissions and waste thanks to a partnership with Cycle-Up
The Bâtir France entity, attached to Spie batignolles grand-ouest, has carried out a collaboration with Cycle-Up, the 1st professional platform for the reuse of building materials and real estate, on a rehabilitation site in Châteaubriant. An initial assessment demonstrated the success of this operation, which made it possible to limit 23.40 tonnes of waste produced and reduce carbon emissions by 62.20 teq of CO².
Collaboration with Backacia on a rehabilitation project
The Spie batignolles Outarex entity worked with Backacia, the marketplace for the reuse of construction materials and equipment, on a rehabilitation site in Coignières.
A facade built using old oak doors
On a project combining rehabilitation and new construction led by Spie batignolles boyer for the creation of a crèche in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, and under the impetus of the Direction des Constructions Publiques et de l'Architecture de la Ville de Paris and the With the help of architect Jean Bocabeille - BFV Architects, the transformation of 600 solid oak landing doors from a nearby residence undergoing renovation enabled the design of the wooden facade of the crèche.
Waste that becomes real resources
Another original initiative on some of the group's public works sites: the teams are working with Terra Innova, a start-up specializing in the reuse of spoil for the re-fertilization of agricultural land located near a site.
