Slate solar thermal panel dedicated to the terrace

The world leader in natural slate today unveils a version dedicated to flat surfaces and transforms the terrace into a source of energy. Results: the installation of this system under a paving of 8 panels makes it possible to ensure two thirds of the DHW production of a family of 4 people.

A heated slate terrace that combines aesthetics and energy performance

Natural and mineral, slate combines elegance and energy performance. With a lifespan of 100 years, split by hand, it does not require much energy and water. A traditional roofing material, it now meets the challenges of modern architecture thanks to its bluish tones and the play of light it causes. Its versatility and its raw appearance allow it to adapt as well to the ornamentation of castles as to contemporary flashes, from the facade to the edge of the swimming pool. Which it can now help to heat water!

To maximize this potential and capitalize on the capacity of shale to capture heat, Cupa Pizarras has been developing a thermal solar panel since 2014 that has the Technical Assessment of CSTB (Scientific and Technical Center for Building). In France, more than a hundred roofs are now equipped with this system and its invisible sensors.

To support architects, Cupa Pizarras is working to develop new uses for slate. With the Thermoslate Flat system, slate is dedicating an innovative solution - unique on the market - dedicated to flat surfaces: from the terrace to the flat roofs through the facade.

The Thermoslate Flat panel is composed of 12 slates of 40x20 cm, connected by a patented thermal adhesive. The whole is thus presented in the form of a perfectly smooth composition which concedes no roughness, walkable up to 300 kg / m2. Under the 5 mm thick slates is slipped a 35 mm sensor connected by flexible hoses. An opening device allows direct access to the connections.

The panel is then incorporated among unequipped slates and remains invisible. On the other hand, it will stand out from an energy point of view since a base of 8 panels (surface area: 7,68m²) will generate savings of 1 kWh and one tonne of CO500 per year. Cost of the investment: around € 2.

Tailor-made solutions dedicated to architects and building stakeholders

For Stéphane Renard, Sales Director France of Cupa Pizarras, this new solution is part of a desire to promote slate beyond its traditional use:

“Slate is more than ever a trendy material. From an environmental and aesthetic point of view. Shale fits particularly well into the landscape, on the roof as well as on the facade and gives a real character to individual houses as well as to collective housing and service buildings. We put our know-how at the service of building players and architects. The aim is to feed them with new tailor-made solutions such as our Cupaclad Design ventilated facade concepts which are available on demand or this Thermoslate Flat system, which is already operational, reliable and ready for delivery. ”

According to technical studies carried out by Cupa Pizarras, ground-based sensor panels can thus be deployed anywhere in France, provided, of course, that they are exposed without shadows.
