Retirement: for the Minister of Labor, "other schemes are possible"

In this interview, the minister notably mentioned "the project of a points system, abandoned in 2020 because of Covid, which left everyone the choice of when to leave."

Mr. Farandou also cites the possibility of a "capitalization" pension and that of "a mixture of several systems."

"There are other possible regimes," Farandou emphasizes. "All of this deserves to be studied, thought about, discussed, and debated, taking the time to do so. It's a societal choice," he adds.

In his general policy speech on Tuesday, the new Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, proposed suspending pension reform "until the presidential election" in 2027.

He proposed to the social partners that a new conference be held, where "the question of the entire management of our pension system" should be addressed.

If the participants manage to deliver their initial conclusions "next spring," "the government will transpose the agreement into law and Parliament will decide," Farandou told Ouest-France. "Otherwise, it will be up to the presidential candidates to make their proposals," he said.

Asked about a possible new reform of unemployment insurance, the former head of SNCF did not wish to comment on the subject, indicating that it was "in the process of being resolved."
