Results of the construction of housing and premises at the end of July 2022

The number of dwellings authorized over the last three months, however, remains much higher (+ 9,4%) than the average for the twelve months preceding the health crisis (March 2019 to February 2020). The effect of the exceptional number of permit applications submitted in December 2021 has been exceeded since the end of March for pure individual housing, is gradually fading for grouped individual housing but remains very high for collective housing or residences.

Over the past three months, housing starts are estimated to have decreased (-2,1%), similar to the previous three months (-1,9%), in CVS-CJO data. During these three months, it is estimated that housing starts were lower (- 2,7%) than their average for the twelve months preceding the first confinement.

From August 2021 to July 2022, 507.000 housing units were authorized for construction, i.e. 53.400 more than during the previous 12 months (+ 11,8%). At the same time, it is estimated that 385 housing units were started, i.e. 200 more (+ 1.400%) than in the previous 0,4 months (August 12 to July 2020). If we take as a point of comparison the 2021 months preceding the health crisis (March 12 to February 2019), the number of dwellings authorized and started during the last 2020 months are respectively 12% and 10,3% higher.

Authorized accommodations

From August 2021 to July 2022, 507.000 housing units were authorized for construction, i.e. 53.400 more than during the previous 12 months (+ 11,8%).

Authorizations for grouped individual housing (+ 22,1%) experienced the strongest growth, ahead of those for ordinary collective housing (+ 15,2%), residential housing (+ 14,0%) and pure individual housing (+ 2,7%).

Housing starts

Over the past twelve months, an estimated 385.200 housing units have been started, i.e. 1.400 more (+0,4%) than in the previous 12 months (August 2020 to July 2021).

Pure individual housing (+ 10,6%) would have experienced strong growth. Grouped individual dwellings (+1,2%) would have increased slightly. On the other hand, ordinary collective housing (- 4,5%) and residential housing (- 8,3%) would have decreased.
