With a surface area of 26.000 m2, SAIPEM's head office in France accommodates its 2.000 employees in a R+6 building divided into 4 zones (A, B, C, D). It consists of a ground floor where the reception area is located and 6 identical floors where the office floors, meeting rooms and two comfort zones are located. Built in 2001, the building with its large glazed facades had, among other things, indirect lighting per slab equipped with two compact fluorescent tubes with a power of 55W each, permanently lit from 6:00 a.m. to 21:00 p.m. This having become obsolete, the company decided at the end of 2021 to replace it in order to meet the objectives of reducing energy consumption set by the ELAN law.
On the recommendation of Bouygues Energies & Services, in charge of building works and maintenance, David Halluin - Head of General Services SAIPEM France - chose Sylvania's eco-efficient LED luminaires associated with the SylSmart intelligent lighting management solution Connected.
An initial objective of 75% energy savings in winter
In order to achieve the energy savings targeted by SAIPEM France, Sylvania began by carrying out an energy audit of the lighting systems in place, their costs and the regulations to be complied with (ELAN law, stoppage of fluorescent tubes on September 1, 2023 ). It was followed by a lighting study carried out by Sylvania's design office, which recommended replacing:
- the warm white light tiles (3000 K) by the eco-responsible OPTICLIP luminaire with replaceable LED modules, combined with the SylSmart Connected intelligent lighting management solution,
- the 26W compact fluorescent spotlights located in circulation areas by the ASCENT 100 II decorative downlight.
To assess the effectiveness of the recommended lighting solution and ensure that it met the needs of SAIPEM France, 8 OPTICLIP luminaires with double detection (presence sensor and consideration of the contribution of natural light) were was first installed for 6 months in an office. The result being conclusive, the replacement of all the lighting fixtures in wings A and B on the 4th floor began in April 2022.
Combining high luminous efficiency (122 lm/W) and a good glare index (UGR<17), 230 OPTICLIPs in neutral white (4000 K) are used in office floors, comfort areas and meeting rooms. of meeting. They are set at 300 lux, in accordance with the regulatory obligation relating to visual comfort in work spaces. Made to measure in the 675 x 675 mm format in order to fit perfectly in place of the old tiles, they are coupled with the SylSmart Connected wireless lighting management system. Operating in groups of 2 to 4 luminaires depending on the location, they switch on one after the other when their integrated intelligent sensor detects the arrival of a person, as well as depending on the amount of natural light. For optimal comfort, the meeting rooms with screen also have a dimmable switch, without wires or batteries, which allows occupants to dim the light during a projection.
In the corridors, 105 round ASCENT 100 II downlights with aluminum dissipator, also with a color temperature of 4000 K, complete the installation. With a power of 17W, they combine visual comfort (IRC>80, SDCM<3) and high performance (lighting efficiency of 113 lm/W).
Throughout the project, Sylvania supported Bouygues Energies & Services in the deployment of the SylSmart Connected system by configuring off-site the zones and lighting scenes as well as the configuration of the luminaires. Using a dedicated mobile application, at any time, the Bouygues Energies & Services operations manager can also adjust certain settings if necessary, such as the calibration of natural light or check that it is working properly.
A real economy beyond expectations
Thanks to 4 meters dedicated to energy readings, the Bouygues Energies & Services operations manager can closely monitor consumption. Before the renovation of the existing lighting, it was 5.092 kW in October 2021.
A year later, thanks to Sylvania's high-performance solutions, it increased to 410 kW in October 2022, "which represents more than 80% of energy savings smoothed over 1 year, well beyond our expectations thanks to the reaction of the double detection that we could not measure before” explains the interlocutor for SAIPEM.
The audit carried out by Sylvania was a lever, a trigger for the project, and proved to be relevant. Thanks to the energy gain, the savings are immediate (estimated ROI of around 4 years).
