Faced with the climate crisis that the world is going through and the energy crisis that threatens European countries, the Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, called on French companies to reduce their energy consumption before the Medef. It is up to each of them to establish their own “sobriety plan” from September. Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister for Energy Transition, explains that the French government is "preparing for the worst-case scenario" and calls for sobriety "for everyone".
The construction sector is now able to offer a concrete solution that has proven itself. Renovation and passive construction allow an effective ecological transition, risk control on energy supply, while fighting against energy poverty.
Unrecognized by some players in the construction sector and increasingly popular with the general public, this is the solution that the association La Maison Passive has been promoting since its creation.
What is the "Passive"?
Operation is simple; the heat generated inside the building by the occupants combined with that provided by solar radiation is almost sufficient to meet heating needs. The passive building is perfectly insulated, each thermal weakness is carefully thought out and treated, as if it had been covered with a coat that protects it from the cold in winter and from the heat in summer! It therefore does without a conventional heating system in winter and air conditioning in summer.
The passive design and construction method applies to all types of building and architecture (house, apartment, schools, offices, supermarkets, hospital, gymnasium, hotel, restaurant, etc.) in new construction and renovation. It is based on the following principles: efficient insulation, excellent airtightness and ventilation allowing recovery of outgoing heat.
The passive building is more ecological!
The energy expenditure for heating a passive building is three times less than that of a building respecting the RE2020 and ten times less than the average of the existing stock, which considerably reduces the impact of the building on the environment.
It is quite possible to combine bioclimatism and passive performance. A large part of French passive buildings are made from biosourced materials and use low-tech and energy-efficient technical solutions. To rhyme Low Carbon Footprint with Energy Sobriety!
The cost of a passive building
Thanks to the energy savings provided by the “Passive”, the operating cost will be lower than that of a “regulatory” building. The additional construction cost will therefore be amortized well before the end of occupancy period. The explosion of energy prices further improves the profitability of passive construction.
