Qualitative study of the heat pump market carried out by Observ'ER

In the aerothermal equipment segment, the strong growth in sales in 2021 continued in the first half of 2022, which allows players to approach the future with a certain serenity. However, there are points of concern, particularly with growing supply tensions and the increase in the cost of raw materials. This context has prompted manufacturers to raise their prices in 2021 and 2022, at the risk of slowing down market dynamics. Another tricky point is the great difficulty companies have in recruiting. Particularly sensitive on the installation part of the equipment, this problem weighs more as sales increase in a sector. On the regulatory side, the revisions announced by Brussels of the regulations on refrigerants have caused a large part of the industrialists to react. They consider that the thresholds targeted in the short term are incompatible with the development of current technologies, the risk would be to see a large part of the ranges available being declared unfit for sale from 2025.

On the geothermal side, the market is in a much less favorable position. Stuck at very low levels of activity, the sector struggles with the image of a very unaffordable technology disseminated by networks of installers and drillers too few to cover the country. Professionals call for more support actions from public authorities and place some of their hopes in the technology of geothermal walls which could offer achievements at lower cost.
