Putting the National Building Repository (RNB) online: a new geocommon to meet the challenges of building renovation

Its objective is to facilitate the monitoring and cross-checking of building data for public administrations, communities and private actors.

The provision of a public database is essential to facilitate administrative work, consolidate building energy renovation data and have an up-to-date vision of the state of transformation of the building stock in France. If the National Buildings Database (BDNB) has initiated the pooling of building data, the RNB will make it possible to list all the buildings in the territory, and thus optimize and accelerate the conduct of public and private actions. .

To this end, the RNB assigns a unique identifier to each building which will provide a common and exhaustive vision of buildings in the territory. This building “number plate” aims to simplify the monitoring of the transformation of the building stock and the cross-referencing of various building data useful to administrations and all construction stakeholders. Hosted within the IGN Géocommuns Factory, this project brings together the different stakeholders holding building data around a digital commons.

This is a collaborative innovation resulting from the merger of several tools: the National Buildings Database (BDNB) of the CSTB and the Topo BD of the IGN. The GNI currently lists more than 48 million buildings and is regularly updated with data from various public and private stakeholders. The construction of the RNB is also carried out in collaboration with geomatic data experts from the National Council for Geolocalized Information (CNIG).
