Possible further postponement, after the Olympics, of the limited traffic zone in the center of Paris

The implementation of this ZTL was to take place "at the beginning of 2024", after a first postponement of a year and a half decided in 2022, announced the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo in March, in an interview with AFP, assuring " (meet) deadlines", against the backdrop of negotiations with the police headquarters which had initially expressed "strong reservations".

During a press conference Monday on the results of the work one year before the Games, the city's first deputy, Emmanuel Grégoire, nevertheless explained that the mayor and the police prefect had "agreed in terms of timetable for the post-Olympic implementation of the ZTL".

By telephone, Emmanuel Grégoire's office clarified that "several hypotheses" are being considered, including that of a short-term postponement which has not yet been decided.

Early 2024 remains “an objective”, he clarified.

The town hall aims to integrate into the ZTL, the aim of which is to drastically reduce the place of the car in the hypercenter of the capital, the first four arrondissements, plus the parts of the 50th, XNUMXth and XNUMXth located between Boulevard Saint-Germain and the Seine via the ban on so-called transit traffic, which according to her represents XNUMX% of current traffic.

The police headquarters is located in the heart of this perimeter, on the Île de la Cité. At the beginning of June, at the Paris council, the representative of the Police Prefecture spoke of her “disagreement” on the timetable aimed at establishing the ZTL at the start of 2024, just before the Olympics.

Sub-prefect Elise Lavielle, Laurent Nuñez's chief of staff, immediately corrected herself, evoking her "cautious position on the calendar put in place before the Olympic Games".

At the beginning of September, EELV deputy for mobility David Belliard assured him that there would be "no further postponement: the ZTL will be done before the Olympics". But its perimeter “will partly depend on the police headquarters”, he admitted.
