Only 3% of buildings equipped with collective charging stations for electric cars

The transition to electric vehicles is a crucial lever for reducing carbon emissions. With charging carried out mainly at home in 85% of cases and almost half of French people living in collective residences, it is now essential to equip condominiums with charging solutions for electric vehicles in order to support the electrification of the French automobile fleet.

This lack of private terminals in collective housing remains a major obstacle to the electrification of cars, an essential building block for the decarbonization of transport. Drivers generally prefer to plug their vehicle in at home, where charging costs much less than at public terminals.

The number of connected buildings should, however, increase significantly in the coming months, thanks to subsidies: 28.673 new buildings have validated the installation of an infrastructure (+6,4%). This will ultimately represent 10,6% of collective buildings.

The Advenir public program subsidizes these infrastructures up to 50% of the amount excluding tax, for a maximum of 8.000 euros.

These bonuses are now open to social landlords as well as building owners, Avere indicated at a press conference.

It is quite easy to install a terminal at home when you have a house, by connecting to the meter.

It takes longer in collective buildings (247.000 have more than 5 parking spaces in France). Each motorist, owner or tenant, can require the installation of a terminal, at their own expense. But the union council can also opt for shared charging points or collective infrastructure.

Enedis, the electricity network manager, can extend this network (cables, meters) into the basement. Charging stations are then connected according to the needs of residents.

A host of private operators also offer to take care of the procedures, against the payment of a monthly fee and recharges from the motorists who use them.
