New Saugnac application to simplify monitoring the evolution of cracks

The operation of the application is based on the marking of each Saugnac gauge uniquely with a QR code and an identifier. This innovation makes it possible to associate the measurements with the gauge in the application and to find the entire history simply by scanning the QR code of the gauge. This marking facilitates the traceability of the data and offers the possibility, if the user wishes, to share the measured values ​​and their identity.

Saugnac has succeeded in developing an automatic reading functionality for the measurement of the G1 gauges which makes it possible to measure the spacing of the cracks to 1/10th of a mm.

This feature simplifies the reading of the vernier which is done directly with the smartphone camera.

This reading is based on an image analysis program which required several months of development.

Moreover, temperature and humidity level are automatically recovered on partner bases depending on the geolocation of the phone. This additional data collected provides information on the weather conditions at the time the measurement was carried out and makes it possible to refine the diagnosis.

The temperature also allows calculate gauge expansion and refine the measurement accordingly to obtain the most reliable data possible.

It is possible to add photos and comments associated with the measurement to create the file. The interest of the application also lies in the possibility of being able to collaborate with several people during the collection: each user can add their measurements and share them. Everything is centralized within the application and associated with the gauge using its QR code.

The application also allows you to create files by location and store the gauges for easier classification. Each location can then be viewed on a map with the corresponding number of gauges.

The application presents a summary of the gauges to quickly assess the maximum amplitude of the measurements and the evolution compared to the last measurement. Simple graphs are offered as well as the possibility of managing alerts in the event of exceeding a variation threshold.

All measurements can then be exported to an Excel file and the photos are time-stamped and classified to facilitate analysis and report production.

The combination of Saugnac gauges and its application thus provides a simple and effective solution for building experts to monitor structures at risk by enriching and making data collection and management more reliable.
