Nearly half a million visitors to Laure Prouvost's pavilion at the Venice Biennale

90 countries participated in this biennial. Entitled "Deep See Blue Surrounding You / Vois Ce Bleu Profond Te Fondre", Laure Prouvost's creation, combining video, sculpture and performance, was noticed by her somewhat provocative creativity.

To distance itself from the idea of ​​national representation, a concealed entrance had been created behind the Pavilion and an imagined tunnel between the French Pavilion and its British neighbor.

"I created the project around the idea of ​​the octopus, this fascinating animal with a unique sensory intelligence," explained the artist.

"If I designed the central system, it was essential that each spectator feel like a tentacle of this project, with its history, its feelings. It offered an immersion in the belly of a somewhat unknown sprawling animal to find who we are and what binds us to each other, beyond social constructions, our age, our origins, etc. ", summarized the winning artist of the prestigious Turner Prize in 2013.

"Deep See Blue Surrounding You" should go from the end of January to the end of May 2020 at the Frac Occitanie in Toulouse and from the beginning of July to mid-September at the LaM in Villeneuve d'Ascq near Lille.

Laure Prouvost is the third woman to have represented France in the history of the French Pavilion, after Sophie Calle (2007) and Annette Messager (2011).
