LeLynx.fr, online comparator of energy offers, questioned consumers and deciphers the most commonly adopted eco-gestures.
62% of French people limit the heating temperature to pay less
In a study carried out by YouGov, LeLynx.fr is interested in the behavior of French people to reduce their energy expenditure at home. The study reveals that the vast majority of households have adopted concrete eco-friendly actions to save energy. Only 4% of them say they do nothing to reduce their consumption.
At a time when the winter cold sets in outside, nearly 2 in 3 French people (62%) admit lowering the heating temperature to reduce the amount of their bill. A gesture that is used more by inhabitants of rural areas (63%) and small and medium-sized towns (65%). In large cities, 1 in 2 inhabitants (55%) reduce the temperature of the radiators to save on their heating bill.
Other eco-gestures are now also part of the daily life of the French. 65% of them have already replaced their bulbs with LEDs, which are more economical, and 64% say they prefer showers over baths. Certain reflexes are also emerging: 38% of consumers think of comparing energy labels when they buy an electrical device and 23% use the mobile application of their energy supplier to monitor their consumption. Almost a quarter of them (27%) have also subscribed to a more advantageous energy offer from their energy supplier, such as an off-peak hour option.
For Itzal Arbide, Managing Director of LeLynx.fr: “The French have understood that changing a few daily actions can reduce the energy bill: by reducing the heating of their home from 20 ° to 19 °, a household can reduce its consumption by almost 7%. Favoring off-peak hours to operate electrical appliances also allows you to benefit from a reduced rate of 40%. "
On the other hand, only 16% of French people say they have undertaken renovation work to reduce the energy consumption of their home.
Heating represents 71% of the energy consumption of the French
According to the Center for Economic Studies and Research on Energy (CEREN), 71% of the annual energy consumption of French households is devoted to heating, all energies combined. Next come electrical appliances (17%), domestic hot water and cooking, tied at 6%.
In the list of electrical appliances that consume the most, the combined fridge / freezer comes first (346 kWh / year), followed by the dryer (301 kWh / year) and the freezer (288 kWh / year). The television is at the foot of the podium (187 kWh / year), followed by the refrigerator (166 kWh / year) and the dishwasher (162 kWh / year). Surprise of the ranking: the video game console consumes 103 kWh / year on average, almost as much as a washing machine!
