This report, which has just been certified by the Efectis laboratory, validates the group's approach to have the fire protection performance of its system recognized a few months after the toughening of the legislation in this area. The question now is: why should the Myral system not be recognized as a heat shield required for installation on COB or IMH?
It was last August 11, a decree published in the "Official Journal" changed the rules of fire protection. Continuing their process of renovating these regulations by drawing the consequences of the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower in London, the public authorities specified the outlines of the law concerning the renovation of the facades of mid-rise buildings (IMH). The text indicated that, among the two construction solutions authorized by article R. 122-33 of the CCH resulting from the decree, “the facade system is made of practically incombustible materials with the exception of a sub-assembly protected by a heat shield. "And to specify:" a sub-assembly of the system cannot be classified at least A2-s3, d0, provided that it is protected by a heat shield […]. The heat shield has an EI30 fire resistance performance and the effectiveness of the facade system is demonstrated by laboratory judgment. These rules therefore require exterior insulation solutions, based on combustible insulation, to be covered with a 30-minute fire-resistant heat shield.
A new step in Myral's regulatory approach to the fire risk
In view of this new situation, the Myral group's design office, which has been pursuing a policy of research and testing for several years on the reaction to fire of its ITE solution, wished to propose a different approach in the apprehension solutions integrating a combustible mass.
"Thanks to the implementation of our product (cladding / cladding) which eliminates the air space (potential responsible for the chimney effect during a fire), its multiple possible systems (combinations with different types of reinforcements). 'insulator) and the test campaign we conducted (M ranking, then SBI test, then 6 LEPIR tests), we were convinced that we had all the assets to prove that our Myral system is relevant in terms of resistance to fire. It is for this reason that we have undertaken fire tests with the specialized laboratory Efectis. "
- Julien Bagnard, development manager
Objective: to prove that the Myral system, made up of M32 and Kooltherm K15 insulation from Kingspan, could be recognized as a fire stop for 30 minutes. Completed at the beginning of March, after two orientation tests then two certification tests, this campaign is a success since the Efectis laboratory has just submitted the report which classifies the EI30 system. A first in France for a fuel-based facade insulation product!
What about the participation of the Myral system as a heat shield?
Obtaining this EI30 classification shows that, even incorporating polyurethane insulation, a system protected by an aluminum cladding can withstand 30 minutes in the face of a fire in unfavorable conditions… and therefore protect the building and its inhabitants. This corresponds to the rules for entering the category of heat shields. What to change the law? This is the question that is now put to decision-makers. Indeed, the impacts on the renovation and construction of new housing sectors would be significant. At a time, when regulations impose more and more thermal resistance, offering high-performance products, thin and economical, is a challenge, especially in the wood frame construction (COB) and IMH markets, which are therefore both subject to the implementation of a heat shield ensuring fire safety ...
Insulating facade cladding M32
The facade cladding incorporating PIR type insulation, designed, manufactured and marketed by Myral, combines aesthetics, installation speed and energy efficiency (lambda of 23 mW / mK). Made to the size of the layout, the length of the panels is variable, from 1,5 ml to 14 ml (against 1,5 to 2 ml for traditional cladding panels). Myral facade coverings can be installed as cladding or cladding on all types of construction. Two thicknesses are available, M32 and M62. The solution is a long-term investment with an estimated lifespan in the life cycle analysis of more than 50 years. Customizable (depending on conditions *), the Myral color chart offers a wide choice of colors and different ranges of finishes.
