In France, 37% of owners are reluctant to rent their accommodation to a person from a minority, according to a survey carried out by Ifop and published a few days ago.
Among the landlords surveyed, 28% are reluctant to rent a home to someone of a different ethnic origin and 24% are reluctant to rent to people of a different religion to their own.
The survey also reports that 12% of owners are reluctant to rent their accommodation to individuals of a different sexual orientation.
It is people aged 18 to 24 and supporters of the National Rally who express this reluctance the most.
This survey was carried out in September by the Ifop institute for the Hexagone think tank and questioned 2.008 individuals.
Among them, "82% of 'racialized' people believe that it is difficult to find housing because of discrimination."
Another obstacle to diversity is that 44% of those surveyed are opposed to new social housing in their neighborhood, compared to 25% in 2005.
This opinion is more present among people who voted for the National Rally or allied parties in the first round of the 2024 legislative elections: 63% among RN voters, 53% of Les Républicains voters, 35% of voters of the former presidential majority and 24% of voters of the New Popular Front.
