Mobile intensive care units to help hospitals meet the high demand for care

Winner of a consultation, the Mangini Heathcare, Edilsider, Assar France Architects and OTE Engineering consortium has developed I-Care, autonomous intensive care and mobile care units that make it possible to relieve hospital services by complementing existing structures. The major challenge is to offer flexible, scalable and qualitative solutions that adapt to the new needs of hospitals.

I-Care, a solution that integrates care at the heart of its design

With Covid-19, hospitals had to convert some of their care units into intensive care units, requiring postponement of any surgical operations that could be postponed. Thanks to I-Care, hospitals will no longer have to compromise certain services to compensate for the lack of intensive care units, to the detriment of patients.

These modules, containers designed and produced to be ready for use, meet health emergency situations as well as the needs of medical surfaces in hospitals and clinics. They offer ergonomic, generous and functional workspaces to guarantee optimal efficiency for caregivers, with the patient benefiting from a high-quality care environment equivalent to that of the main hospital structure.

Beyond the obvious innovation represented by these mobile resuscitation units, the group wanted to infuse the reflections that animate it daily, both in the design and in the manufacture of the containers. Thus, the teams are made up of caregivers, architects, technical and biomedical engineers, ergonomists, space designers, production engineers, to study all the details of the project at each phase.

An efficient scalable solution thanks to a "Plug & Play" logic

The I-Care solution is developed in a small unit of 5 beds which are grafted around a central platform. The latter constitutes the core of the structure for all of these units and brings together all the “support” functions necessary for the proper functioning of the care areas. This platform is modular and extendable in order to add units of 5 beds - thus making it possible to obtain a service of 15, 20, 25 or 30 beds - and offers the possibility of several combinations in "plug and play" mode.

The set has been designed to benefit from natural light thanks to all the openings positioned both in the boxes and in the circulation spaces and the central platform. Obeying the most demanding safety and health standards, it incorporates a separate separate circuit for waste management.

Finally, the I-Care modules have been designed to be installed in all types of locations, topography (sloping, on roofs, etc.) and geography without additional fittings, thanks to a system of adjustable feet. I-Care can also adapt to all types of climate.
