Mines Télécom (IMT) is committed to training 20% more engineering students by 2027

The Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT), the leading public group of major engineering and management schools in France, resulting from the merger in 2009 of the Corps des Mines and that of Télécommunications, plans to increase by 20% the number of its engineering graduates by 2027.

At the end of a 2023-2027 objectives and performance contract (COP) signed with its supervisory authority in Bercy on December 21, the IMT "commits to training and graduating 20% more engineers" or 11.600 in 2027 compared to 9.653 in 2022, the reference year, Odile Gauthier, general director of IMT, indicated a few days ago during a press conference.

“We are committed to responding to the major demands of the State”, keen to accelerate the reindustrialization of the country as well as the ecological, energy, climatic and digital transitions underway, she explained.

Mines-Télécom, made up of eight major engineering schools and two subsidiaries on 17 sites (Lille, Douai, Paris, Palaiseau, Evry, Brest, Rennes, Nantes, Saint-Dié des Vosges, Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Sophia-Antipolis , Gardanne, Alès, Albi, Castres and Pau) prides itself on having "accompanied all the industrial and communications revolutions since the XNUMXth century".

For the next period, Mines-Télécom also plans to increase the proportion of female students in the recruitment of engineering students, which should increase to 30% in 2027 and 35% in 2030 compared to 22,7% in 2022.

“The task will be difficult, and does not depend only on us, but also on the high schools and the percentages of science baccalaureate graduates,” underlined Ms. Gauthier.

Despite the imperatives of massification, the Institut Mines-Télécom does not plan to open post-baccalaureate recruitment, and remains attached to the selective process of post-preparatory class competition, but says it is ready to welcome in different sectors, in particular bridges , some young people coming from other post-baccalaureate courses.

The IMT also plans to develop apprenticeships and continuing education.

The 2023 integration survey of young IMT graduates shows a “notable progression in orientation towards the industrial sector” (35% compared to 28% in 2022), and a “marked attractiveness for the province since the health crisis" (53% in 2023 and 36% in 2018).
