Hibernian House is an iconic South Mall building, built in the 1970s and still retains its Italianate Victorian facade dating from around 1825 to this day. entrusted the realization to Abbeyside & Co, award-winning specialist in office fit-out.
Conceptual approach
As a nod and homage to the building's raw industrial heritage, the Abbeyside design team proposed to dress the interior with a sleek retro vibe. Working with a simple monochrome color palette and pops of bright yellow, they've created a wonderfully welcoming space that truly reflects Otterbox's culture and commitment to creating fun workplaces.
For the flooring of the spacious hallways and the large open workspace, the design team chose Laid Bare from Milliken's Comfortable Concrete 2.0 modular carpet collection. The striking appearance of the large slabs provided the urban aesthetic sought by designers. Its raw yet refined appearance responds to the industrial-style skylights of the adjacent meeting rooms, creating a cohesive and solid design concept.
The Laid Bare carpet, in pale Whisper gray tones, harmonizes with the snow-white walls and exposed plenum ceiling, inspiring a sense of openness and modernity and helping to brighten up the space.
For the flooring of the various Otterbox meeting rooms, the design team chose the Comfortable Concrete 2.0 modular carpet in the Urban Drama version, mustard yellow. Random splashes of color add an organic look to this space and coordinate with pops of yellow color in wall designs and some furniture.
The Laid Bare tiles continue on the upper floor, with angled windows on one side, which give it a relaxed loft feel. This area has been artfully divided by reed glass mesh doors, while an eclectic mix of movable chairs creates a series of flexible and informal meeting areas.
Performance in terms of comfort
While Comfortable Concrete 2.0 clearly offers the aesthetic qualities sought by the design team, its performance was nonetheless crucial in the specifications. With its large open spaces and exposed ceilings, acoustics management was an important consideration for this studious work environment. Comfortable Concrete's Comfort Plus®, Milliken's premium tile backing, provides the space with superior acoustic performance, absorbing up to 37 dB of impact noise. For Otterbox, this means a workplace where employees can work more efficiently and focus more easily.
For a company that prides itself on attracting the best talent and caring for its employees, it was also essential to create offices that were comfortable and attractive as well as aesthetically pleasing. Comfortable Concrete meets these expectations with its high-quality surface texture and the luxurious comfort of the Comfort Plus® backrest. Otterbox can also be reassured: its floor coverings are environmentally friendly. While the backing is made from 90% recycled material, the coating also benefits from environmental accreditations including EPD and BRE certifications, as well as GuT and CRI Green Label Plus for indoor air quality.
