Government announcements to phase out fuel oil and gas and public aid have had a strong impact on sales of individual wood-burning appliances in 2021. After a year 2020 marked by the health crisis, the market is back on the path to growth in 2021 (+34,4% compared to 2020).
Total sales amounted to 422.930 units, a record since 2015. These good results were mainly driven by the automatic pellet appliance segments such as automatic boilers, which more than doubled their sales (+119,6%). for 31.910 units) in 2021. Another very dynamic market is that of automatic stoves, which grew by 43,2% (174.020 units). Of all sales in 2021, the activity of pellet appliances (all types combined) exceeds that of log appliances (213.340 units sold against 209.590).
The fireplaces and inserts market (with 63.780 units sold), although growing compared to 2020, remains on a downward trend over the last 10 years. Sales in this segment have been divided by almost three since 2011. Finally, the cooker market continues to be marginalized with a drop of 17,3% in 2021 and now only represents a niche market (2.710 units).
These findings come from the 2021 qualitative study by Observ'ER (Observatory of renewable energies) on the market for domestic wood-burning appliances.
