Major disruptions to transport to the north of Paris expected in mid-February

Traffic will be significantly reduced to and from Gare du Nord from Friday 14 to Monday 17 February, then from Friday 21 to Monday 24 February, and travellers are advised to postpone their journeys.

These reductions concern RER B and D (1 train out of 2 to the north of the lines), lines H and K, TER Paris-Laon and Paris-Beauvais. The interconnection of RER B and D will be suspended at Paris Nord station.

Increased services are planned on metro lines 4, 5 and 14, in particular, as well as a special shuttle from La Plaine-Saint-Denis to the Saint-Denis-Pleyel metro station (metro 14).

The works, worth 50 million euros, consist of installing a 1.800-tonne metal bridge in Saint-Denis, with a span of 143 metres. It is to replace the "Pont des Cathédrales", dating from 1894, and named in reference to the "railway cathedrals" located nearby, gigantic workshops that once maintained locomotives.

"The replacement of this structure is essential to maintain the reliability of traffic, Line K and TER Hauts-de-France which run on the railway bridge, as well as those of RER B and D which pass underneath", indicated the transporters and the prefecture of Ile-de-France.

They are also an opportunity to make the necessary adaptations to the shuttles of the future CDG Express airport link.

With more than 1.400 trains and 1,6 million passengers per day, the northern Paris region rail line is the busiest in Europe.
