After launching in 2019 its Charter of Commitment presenting the best practices necessary for the collection and control of waste treatment, it has been joining two new environmental project managers since October 2020. Mathilde Crenn-Sutter (in charge of the West and North regions of France) and Laurent Suet (in charge of the South and East) thus strengthen the Environment Working Group.
They support the signatories of the UFME Charter in achieving their commitments. Their first missions aim to set up tools dedicated to the traceability and consolidation of the volumes collected and processed. These actions include interventions in the field with stakeholders in the Sector to help them progress quantitatively and qualitatively. Network densification is also one of their priorities. In less than four months, several achievements have already taken place: the list of voluntary signatories has increased to 46, an increase of more than 30%. Keeping watch on environmental issues, their mission is evolving and will adapt to future regulatory and normative revisions.
Creating and fostering synergy between businesses and regions: the key to success
In a collective and collaborative spirit, Mathilde Crenn-Sutter and Laurent Suet position themselves as facilitators in the identification and connection between the different links in the chain in order to preserve a virtuous closed loop circuit.
“The main stake is based on the complementarity of the professions concerned to generate emulation. We are open to all players. We meet recyclers, companies specializing in glazing, PVC or even hardware, collection points, waste reception centers, municipalities and regions, in order to build a network of the entire network throughout the territory. A national map is being drawn up and will be enriched on a daily basis to identify nearby collection points. This long-term network will help increase recovery volumes. ", the two project managers agree in unison.
Crossed views of signatories of the UFME Charter
Nelly Philipponnat, Sustainable Building Director Saint-Gobain Glass Bâtiment France
“As the Saint-Gobain Group is very involved in environmental issues, and in particular that of the circular economy in terms of glazing, our adherence to the UFME Charter was obvious. It is a deep, intelligent and educational approach rooted in this DNA whose values we share. Beyond the signature, it is essential to be present in the bay window sector and to develop complementary window and flat glass recycling. This necessarily involves all the work of raising awareness and mobilizing stakeholders. Establishing contacts is fundamental to making this young industry known in each region to collection and dismantling sites. ".
Yann de Bénazé, President Profine France SAS
“Profine was one of the first signatories of the UFME Charter. The environmental and recycling aspect has historically been part of our values. This is evidenced, for example, by our pioneering role as the first gamma extruder to have invented stabilized lead-free PVC in 1994. The added value of the sector led by the UFME lies in the impetus it gives to the recycling of end-of-life materials. The stakes are high, its success is based on massification and generalization. The deconstruction of major construction sites has been launched. The challenge will therefore be to extend the collection of end-of-life materials as far as possible to small sites, throughout the territory. ".
François Picart, Director of Valorsol Environment
“Valorsol Environnement offers full traceability, from the deposit of waste to its recovery in certified channels. We have developed several waste recovery channels that can benefit from a second life. Joinery is one of them. They carry high-value materials, such as PVC, aluminum and glass. And this is also where their recycling is complicated. It is essential to collect entire waste as close as possible to the source in order to offer it the best recovery thanks to the precision work carried out by the dismantling units. The connection between the different operators constitutes the great strength of the sector developed by the UFME. ".
The latest information and the updated list of Charter signatories are available at this address. Following on from the makeover of its website, the UFME will soon put on line the identity cards of the signatories as well as a map of France to illustrate the territorial network. UFME is also working on a visual identity that will allow signatories to make their commitment visible.
