Like all building and public works employees, and in particular new arrivals, these employees need support to properly understand all aspects of prevention and thus preserve their health and safety. According to the priorities defined by its @Horizon 2025 strategic plan, the OPPBTP is launching a campaign targeting temporary work in the construction industry from November 2 and until the end of the year. This communication, information and field action system aims to mobilize construction companies around the issues of prevention of temporary workers. A “security pack” is thus offered, with advice and practical tools, to anticipate the arrival of temporary workers, better welcome them and support them during their assignment.
Changing mindsets around temporary work
Due to the great diversity of activities and significant variations in daily workload, the construction industry relies heavily on temporary workers, which suffers from a high loss ratio, much higher than that of permanent employees. The quality of the integration of temporary workers into work groups and the availability of the required skills, combined with the time pressure of construction sites, are often the cause of too many accidents.
As part of the @Horizon 2025 plan, the OPPBTP has selected temporary work as one of the priority action themes to reduce serious and fatal accidents and improve the working conditions of temporary workers. In 2022, the OPPBTP is therefore launching a campaign aimed at construction companies. An action with temporary employment companies is planned for 2024.
The OPPBTP proposes, with this 2022 campaign, to highlight the importance of the proper integration of temporary employees into teams and work groups based on three pillars:
- Anticipation: precisely defining the role and missions of the temporary worker, evaluating their skills, particularly in terms of safety;
- Reception: check the adequacy of skills with the position offered and ensure that the messages and directives given are properly understood;
- Accompaniment: appointing a companion tutor to guide the temporary worker but also to ensure that the latter is included in the prevention moments on the site.
For Julien Asselin, Director of Targeted Campaigns in charge of the interim campaign: “Very often, construction companies focus on welcoming temporary workers, but real progress needs to be made to anticipate the arrival and support of the employee during his assignment. It is important to insist on these three aspects because it is their combination that will also improve the performance of construction sites and reduce accidents. »
Through this campaign, the OPPBTP also wishes to make companies aware of the benefits they can derive from the good integration of their temporary workers: reduction of accidents, improvement of the performance of construction sites, upskilling thanks to good support, retention of staff and attractiveness of the company, optimization of communication.
A targeted and comprehensive campaign aimed at businesses
From November 2 and for eight weeks, the OPPBTP is setting up this interim campaign aimed at all construction and public works companies using temporary work, with the priority target of company managers, prevention referents, companions, temporary workers...
For this, the Organization has designed its campaign around three essential axes:
The deployment of important means of communication
In order to make companies aware of the subject of temporary work, the OPPBTP provides them with a security pack. A veritable toolbox, this pack is available on the campaign's dedicated website: www.LePackSECURITEinterimairesBTP.fr
In addition, an e-mailing will be distributed to the targeted companies and a visibility system will be set up on social networks as well as on construction information sites in order to refer to the campaign site.
An information and awareness campaign
Companies will be able to find a specific and very complete documentary offer on the website.
- A wide range of information actions with webinars, field meetings, times of exchange within the Club Avenir Prévention network (Loyalty Club of the OPPBTP);
- Questions and answers dealing with all the topics of interest;
- Awareness and testimonial videos;
- Practical tool sheets (request for temporary staff; temporary integration checklist; list of positions at particular risk; mandatory training);
- Information kits for employees (quarter-hour safety, awareness meeting, etc.).
From November, all construction companies will receive an issue of La Lettre de Prévention BTP by email with the aim of reaching as many of them as possible.
A presence on the ground to support companies
Throughout the duration of the campaign, the OPPBTP will support companies directly in the field to help them understand all the issues related to temporary work. The Organization will thus propose an interim diagnosis to the companies that so wish. Based on a questionnaire on their organization, the OPPBTP experts will study their situation and propose solutions in line with their needs.
This local action is accompanied by the creation of a dedicated training course, "Welcome and safety training, successfully integrating your permanent and temporary employees" as well as an online survey aimed at business leaders and companions.
The partners of the OPPBTP are also involved in this campaign: DGT, CNAM, CARSAT, INRS, CAPEB, FFB, FNTP, FSCOPBTP, SIST-BTP, ANACT through the provision of documentation and relaying the campaign.
