The objective: to give a second life to this work of more than 40 years, while limiting the depletion of natural resources and the quantity of waste produced on the site.
In line with its convictions, LCA has therefore endeavored to promote the reuse and safeguarding of certain elements.
For Edouard Bonnin, co-director of LCA Construction Bois: “In this period of shortage and rising raw material prices, it is important to question our way of consuming in order to improve it to reduce our impact on the environment. In this context, it therefore seems essential to us to continue our development on the rehabilitation and renovation market. This project is a good example of this, since it proves that the circular economy is possible in the building sector. Indeed, some beams that we have deposited were used on the EMMAÜS site in St Jean de Linière (49). »
Responsible construction
With the rehabilitation work, the former ice rink is split into several parts. On one side, the main room of 1.200m² dedicated to handball which occupies 3/4 of the former skating area and on the other, an annex sports hall of 415m² reserved for school activity. A space for the premises used for the operation of the sports complex has also been renovated.
To achieve this, the LCA team first worked on the existing part of the building. In fact, the framework was thus reinforced by replacing the wooden under tension with metal under tension, then previously prefabricated wooden frame walls were installed. The poses of the carriers, the wall brackets for the wooden floors, the bleachers, the support structure for the play area and the stairs followed. All in wood, a material that facilitates the rehabilitation and extension of the building on a landlocked and constrained site like this one.
As for the extension, it required the installation of MOB and a wooden frame.
This project makes it possible to extend the life of the building which has been enthroned for 40 years just a stone's throw from the Château d'Angers, to limit the depletion of natural resources and to reduce the quantity of waste on the site. In this spirit, as many materials as possible were also kept, such as the framework of the ice rink, which was stripped bare, part of which was reused for an extension project for the Emmaüs site in Saint-Jean-de -Liners (49).
Agility…
Preserving such a heritage located in the historic center and rehabilitating it, makes it possible to continue to make the practice of sport accessible via soft mobility, but also to fight against the artificialization of the soil.
In addition to the circular economy initiatives put in place, the surrounding trees have been saved despite the complex topography of the site.
A rehabilitation which, in terms of environmental performance, makes it possible to achieve the E3C1 label level.
...and proven technical expertise
After 1.400 hours of complex and rigorous work in the internal design office to justify structural reinforcement elements, then the controlled management of a construction site with difficult access, the new professional handball hall in Angers is therefore delivered since July 2022.
An achievement that brings to 24 the number of rehabilitations carried out by LCA.
As for energy renovation, an important part of this rehabilitation, the company has the expertise in Angers since it notably signed that of the URSAFF in 2021 and is currently working on the former Foyer des Jeunes Travailleurs located in the district. My pleasure.
