Work on the second tram line in the Brest conurbation will begin at the beginning of April for work expected to end at the beginning of 2026, the metropolis announced Thursday March 21.
“We are going to get into the hard part, at least in the visible. This substantial work will reshape the city for the years to come,” declared François Cuillandre, mayor (PS) of Brest and president of the metropolis, during a press conference.
The project aims to build a second tram line of 5,1 kilometers as well as a high level of service bus line (BHNS) of 4,3 km, for a total investment of 225 million euros.
Work on the tramway is scheduled to start on April 2, with commissioning scheduled for February 2026, just before the municipal elections.
The infrastructure work was awarded to Colas, a subsidiary of Bouygues, while the construction of the bridges was entrusted to the companies Marc SA, ETPO, Bouygues Travaux Publics Régions France and Arnholdt (Altrad group).
14,3 km long, the first tram line in the Brest metropolis (211.000 inhabitants) was put into service in 2012. The city at the tip of Brittany also has an urban cable car, inaugurated in 2016.
