KSB launches UPA S 250, its new range of energy-efficient well pumps

UPA S 250, wear resistance and very high yields

Thanks to the optimized geometry of the hydraulics, pumps of this type achieve very high efficiencies. The high resistance to wear conferred by the metal wear rings and the silicon carbide bearings with which they are equipped ensures reduced and constant energy consumption over the years, even with water heavily laden with sand. The UPA S 250 is initially available in three different hydraulic sizes.

The flow rates vary between 60 and 400 cubic meters per hour. The maximum head is 360 meters. All castings are made of high quality stainless steel 1.4408 or optional 1.4517.

On request, the new pumps can also be driven by the energy-efficient electric motors of the UMA-S range. These are permanent magnet synchronous motors whose power density is significantly higher than that of conventional asynchronous motors.

Of identical size, these synchronous motors display higher power and reduced self-heating. Due to the significantly higher efficiencies, shorter amortization times are possible compared to asynchronous motors. The motors are controlled by a frequency converter. Thanks to the adapted flow rates, it is possible to use a demand-oriented mode of operation. This results in additional energy saving potential. In addition, depending on the type of installation, it is possible to reduce the frequency of starts and therefore the strain on the pump winding. This ensures less wear and longer service life.

For operation without a frequency converter, KSB precisely adapts the impeller diameter of the UPA S 250 to the desired operating point so that, also in this operating mode, the individual adaptation of the characteristic curves to the requirements as well as the optimal use of energy. The pump is ACS certified (French approval for drinking water) for use with drinking water and meets the requirements of the German Federal Office for the Environment.
