Inspired by GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards reports, Kebony's 2021 sustainability report unveils a transparent study of the brand's environmental impact and establishes its sustainable approach.
Kebony strives to:
- Sourcing sustainable wood as close as possible to its markets;
- Minimize its carbon footprint;
- Improve its performance over time and reduce any negative impact on the environment;
- Lead by example in management and safety;
- Ensure that resources and waste are treated in a sustainable way.
“Today more than ever, we are witnessing the emergence of major new trends in the construction sector, which manifest themselves in the need for safer and more ecological products. This trend reinforces Kebony's position as the world leader in sustainable wood modification technology. We are convinced that a revolution in timber construction is underway”, commented Norman Willemsen, Managing Director of Kebony, on the publication of the report. “Innovative wood products and growing recognition of the cost-effectiveness, versatility and reduced carbon footprint of wood are driving the widespread use of this material in residential and non-residential buildings. With this in mind, we are pleased to publish our first sustainability report for 2021, which includes information about our non-financial impact as well as our green initiatives. This publication marks the beginning of our approach to transparency and accountability, and resonates with our ongoing efforts to improve our ESG performance. »
Based in Norway, the Kebony brand relies on wood modification technologies that allow them to produce high quality modified wood that is both environmentally friendly and economical. Kebony® technology permanently transforms durable wood species, such as pine, into Kebony wood with characteristics comparable to, and in some cases superior to, those of tropical hardwoods. This unique and environmentally friendly process is also a preferable alternative to the traditional treatment of wood, based on impregnating it with biocides (preservatives).

Thanks to this process, and through its ESG efforts (Environmental, Societal and Governance criteria), Kebony reduces deforestation. Drawing on the UN's sustainability goals, the sustainability report assesses Kebony's impact on the environment, identifies actions that will be taken to further minimize that impact, and ensures accountability on specific criteria.
The sustainability report provides an overview of Kebony's values, its initiatives in terms of equality and safety in the workplace, and its fundamental role in sustainability. Despite its sustainable vision, the company recognizes the margin of progress that remains to be covered to reach a stage of total sustainability. The publication of the sustainability report marks the beginning of a new trajectory, at the heart of which Kebony will take responsibility and strive to create real positive change.
